Additionally, it’s recommended that you protect yourself against diseases such as malaria, leprosy and leishmaniasis depending on which region and cities you are visiting. Brazil is hot and the sun here is powerful. You should be careful of falling prey to dehydration, heat exhaustion and sunstroke. Travellers should drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen of at least SPF 15. Hygiene and public health in Brazil are generally high in the larger cities and urban areas; however, you should use common sense when eating out. Although tap water is ‘safe’ to drink, it has a poor taste and can still give you a stomach upset. It’s best to drink bottled or filtered water. Brazilian pharmacies are excellent and medication is fairly inexpensive.
